First Review

-Friday, March 14, 2008-

Well the whole business concept of this site sort of fell through, although it may be resurrected. I suppose I might as well tell you my results.

The first review was slated to be the iPod Nano 3rd Gen vs the Creative Zen. All told, the Apple interface was slicker than the Zen's (as expected) but the iTunes experience left me feeling frustrated by the buggy and slow implementation on Windows and ultimately the superior sound quality and features of the Creative Zen led me to choose that over the iPod. I used it for several months as a music store and played all my music through it whether I was going for a run or driving (I connected it to my car's head unit via aux in). It performed admirably (although I did have considerable problems with the player and had to reflash the firmware several times) but somewhere along the way I lost it. The iPod I gave to my sister. In the end if you are a casual user who appreciates style, you would probably prefer the easier device experience and could probably tolerate the iTunes experience. For a computer savvy audiophile who demands the best, the Creative Zen delivers and once you get into the groove with how it works you won't have any problems.

As I said though, I lost the creative zen and eventually replaced with a Zune 80GB which I love way more than either the iPod or the Zen. The large screen and easy Zune Pass experience lead me to recommend that over both these two players hands down.
